As a dog owner, you are directly responsible for your dog. It's within your power to give your dog a healthy and happy life. Don't take this responsibility lightly.

Here are 12 rules, as a dog owner, you should follow:

01. Make sure to always obey the laws in your area concerning dogs. Follow the proper leash and clean-up laws and get your pet properly licensed and vaccinated.

02. Try to spend at least a half hour per day playing with your dog. You don't want your pet to feel unloved and lonely.

03. Be informed about neutering and spaying before you make this important decision.

04. Don't forget to take your dog on regular visits to the vet. Yearly checkups, dental exams and vaccinations are all important.

05. Make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise each day. 30 minutes or more per day is best.

06. Make sure your dog has the proper ID's and papers. Get him an ID tag and a proper license. Get him chipped too so you can find him easily if he gets lost.

07. Your dog loves you so much. Try and return the favor. Be a best friend to your dog and let him know how much you love him. Don't punish, beat or hurt your dog. Always treat your dog with love and kindness.

08. Be sure to always clean up well after your dog. This prevents infections and illness.

09. Groom your dog several times a week. Grooming is a great way of bonding with your dog.

10. Your dog need proper nutrition. Buy him the best dog food you can afford.

11. Teach your dog to be social and get along well with others. Take him to areas where there will be other people and dogs around, like a park.

12. Train your dog. To feel fulfilled, you dog needs and want's to be trained.

These rules for dog owners will help you to give your dog a well balanced life. You'll have less behavioral problems and you and your dog will be happy.
